The Black Terrier was developed in the USSR from 1949 onward by government order for service in all climates. The main breeding requirements were: frost resistance (thick, long coat), physical strength, long limbs (for fast running) with wide paws (to avoid sinking into the snow), powerful jaws, and ferocity, but not at the expense of trainability. Height: 70-75 cm. Weight: 45-60 kg.
