The Moscow Watchdog Shepherd was developed in Moscow in the 1950s at the Central School of Military Dog Breeding and the "Red Star" breeding kennel. It was created by crossing the Caucasian Shepherd, St. Bernard, and Russian Piebald Hound. Outside of Russia, the Moscow Watchdog is virtually unknown and uncommon. The Moscow Watchdog is self-confident, even-tempered, independent, and outgoing. It has excellent watchdog and guard qualities, is fearless and never retreats, thrives in cold climates, and is excellent at guarding large areas during cold winters.
