The Yakutian Laika is an ancient aboriginal dog breed of the North-Eastern Russia. The Yakutian Laika is an active, playful, and inquisitive dog with a friendly and docile nature, very sociable, and completely non-aggressive. In the second half of the 20th century, the breed was on the verge of extinction, but enthusiasts managed to restore the population. Yakutian Laikas have very thick fur with a thick undercoat and are known for their freedom-loving and independent nature. They stand 55-60 cm tall and weigh 20-23 kg.
