Ferdinand Petrovich Wrangel (1796-1870) in 1820-1824
In 1945, as a lieutenant, he led the Kolyma Polar Expedition to explore the northeastern coast of Siberia. During the expedition, using dog sleds, the Siberian coastline from the Indigirka River to Kolyuchin Bay was described, and the Medvezh'i Islands were mapped. Wrangel was the first to describe the Kolyma Laika. Wrangel was so confident in the Arctic dogs that he was the first to suggest the possibility of reaching the North Pole using sled dogs, which was realized in the early 20th century.
