Zagoskin Lavrenty Alekseevich (1808-1890) –
An explorer of Russian America—Alaska, the Aleutian Islands, and Northern California. He provided the first description of the aboriginal dogs of the Ttynay tribe and noted that dog sledding among the North American aboriginals in the 19th century was in its infancy, and that North Americans were in many ways inferior to the Chukchi, Evenki, and Kamchadal peoples of northeastern Russia.
