Vladimir Germanovich Tan-Bogoraz (1865-1936) was a writer, ethnographer (ethnogeographer, ethnoculturologist), linguist (researcher of the Chukchi-Kamchatkan languages, the language of the Asian Eskimos, and the Even language), and northern scholar. He was the first to provide a scientific description of the Chukchi sled dog. His ethnographic expeditions took him across the entire Kolyma region and Kamchatka by dog ​​sled.
