Georgy Alekseevich Ushakov (1901-1963) was a Soviet Arctic explorer, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, and the author of 50 scientific discoveries. From 1930 to 1932, he led an expedition to the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago to study and map it. The expedition members traveled the entire Severnaya Zemlya archipelago, covering approximately 5,000 kilometers by dog sled. Ushakov wrote of the expedition's dogs: «They shared all our hardships and adversities. In many ways, we owe our victory to their endurance. We could not have made it this far without the help of our four-legged companions. I want to shout to them: 'Thank you, my dears!'»
