The 2nd separate special services regiment was formed on April 8, 1943 by a directive of the General Staff of the Red Army as part of the 3rd Guards Army.
The core of the regiment was made up of the 39th and 4th separate army detachments of special services and the 23rd separate detachment of tank-destroying dogs.
