Karatsupa Nikita Fedorovich (1909 – 1994) – famous border guard, Hero of the Soviet Union. He became famous for creating his own special school for training trackers and dogs. During his 20 years of service in the border troops, he apprehended 467 border violators. Each case was a heroic achievement, a difficult, often deadly battle with the enemy. And more than once in these clashes, the border guard's life was saved by the dog he raised and trained.

During his years of service on the border, N.F. Karatsupa was assisted by five dogs, all named Ingus. N.F. Karatsupa's first Ingus (pictured) was a stray mongrel puppy. Karatsupa rescued him, raised him, and developed him into the most famous border dog.
