Training for "D" service dogs, or saboteur dogs, began in March 1943. A special program was developed to train dogs to destroy enemy trains. The program required a month of daily, 10-hour training sessions, half of which were conducted at night. It wasn't until June 1943 that the battalion received everything necessary for training:

24 special packs
steam locomotive - 1
weight 200 kg
anti-tank grenades-200
24 explosive packages
meat for dogs 4320 kg.
The pack design was quickly perfected, and on August 19th, at 11:00 a.m., a train carrying enemy personnel was blown up on the Polotsk-Drissa stretch. Ten cars were destroyed, a large section of the railway was disabled, and a fire spread across the entire section from exploding fuel tanks.
