On November 3, 1957, Sputnik II, carrying a living being, launched into space. The g-forces pressed Laika against the container's tray, but she remained calm. Her pulse and respiratory rate tripled. Then all indicators returned to normal. Laika felt quite well in zero gravity. However, the cabin temperature soon rose sharply, and the cosmonaut dog, Laika, died of suffocation. The satellite itself orbited the Earth for another six months.
