On December 1, 1960, the third spacecraft-satellite was launched, carrying the dogs Pchelka (Bee) and Mushka (Fly). The canine cosmonauts were not returned to Earth because, due to insufficient orientation during braking, the spacecraft gained excessive speed and entered a higher orbit.
