Artist Konstantin Berman

During the Great Patriotic War, clown Konstantin Berman performed with front-line brigades. His skit, «Dog Hitler,» was particularly popular. A dog would run onto a makeshift stage and begin barking furiously at everyone around him. «What's your dog's name?» the master of ceremonies asked Berman. «Not yet. I want to call it 'Hitler,'» Berman replied. «What's stopping you?» «I'm afraid the dog will be offended.» This simple skit was always met with rapturous laughter from the soldiers at the front.
