Clown Pencil and the dog Pushok. «Goebbels' Speech» performance.
In the summer of 1942, the «Branch of the Moscow State Circus at the Front» was founded under the direction of M. N. Rumyantsev (Karandash). A portable stage set was constructed for his performances: a curtain, a barrier walkway, and spotlights. The artist created dozens of satirical numbers, including «The Fascists' March on Moscow and Back» and «Speech by Propaganda Minister Goebbels.» Karandash would appear carrying a small speaker's podium, a microphone, and a large briefcase. From the briefcase would be pulled out Karandash's dog, Pushok. Pushok, in his usual oratorical tactic, would place his paw on the podium and bark long and furiously into the microphone. After this, Pushok would return to his briefcase, and Karandash would calmly announce, «Propaganda Minister Goebbels's speech is over!»
