The Caucasian Shepherd is one of the oldest native breeds. Its primary use is guarding flocks.
The Caucasian Shepherd Dog protected her flock from wolves and boldly engaged them in single combat. Breeding work on this breed began in the USSR in the late 1920s. During the breeding process, physical strength, confidence and fearlessness, keen hearing, good eyesight, and a thick, weather-resistant coat were always cultivated as essential qualities.
