In the spring of 1942, the 34th Separate Mine Detection Dog Battalion received a new complement of Leningrad girls who had survived the siege—the «girls' team.» The girls first searched for the dogs (almost all the animals had been eaten during the siege, and the survivors distrusted humans), then earned their trust, and then began training in mine detection.
