On March 25, 1961, the dog-cosmonaut Zvezdochka flew into space. The flight was successful.

Zvezdochka landed near Izhevsk. There was a snowstorm, and rescue services were unable to reach the landing site in time, so Izhevsk pilot Lev Okkelman was sent to search for the dog-cosmonaut. He discovered the container containing the dog.
Initially, the dog Zvezdochka (Star) was called Udacha (Luck), but the first six cosmonauts who were present at the launch decided that such a name could jinx their luck, and so they renamed the dog into Zvezdochka.
